Our extremely successful Internship Program “Fun with German” with local schools has been running since 2003 for advanced students in order to raise more awareness of German language, culture, and thought locally, and to prepare our students for a teaching profession. Two of our newest projects, a summer camp at Oak Hill School in 2016, and the founding of a German Saturday School in Eugene, is coming out of this and will expand our outreach.

GERSCAN faculty volunteers to teach in our summer SAIL camp and in 2015 we doubled the number of participants. In 2015 we also received a Stem Articulation Grant from the German Government (AATG) to assist German teachers at high schools to create and deliver STEM-based units of study. We collaborated with CAMCOR, the University’s state of the art Center for Advanced Materials Characterization in Oregon. The German Video and Teaching Materials that we produced together with the Yamada Language Center will soon be circulated by AATG.

In collaboration with the German Embassy and the German Information Center in Washington, D.C. we regularly host Campus Weeks : film festivals, lectures for our undergraduates, the campus community, and other community members.
