Congratulations German and Scandinavian Graduates!
4:00 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2019
The Department of German and Scandinavian, The Department of Comparative Literature, and the Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies Program together host a Commencement Ceremony for undergraduate and graduate majors. Please join us on Monday, June 17, 2019 to honor you and your fellow German graduates.
APPLYING FOR YOUR DEGREE
Undergraduate students apply on DuckWeb. Spring deadline for the online application is April 28, 2019. If you are applying for concurrent degrees, you must submit two separate applications. If you missed the deadline, contact the Registrar’s Office for a late petition.
Graduate students apply at the Graduate School web site. Spring deadline for the online application is April 12, 2019.
STUDENTS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE
Students who graduate in Fall 2018, Winter 2019, or Spring 2019 are invited to participate in the ceremony. Students who are completing their degree in Summer 2019 are eligible to walk in the spring ceremony. Only students who apply for their degrees through DuckWeb will have their names in the department commencement program. Graduating students will be individually recognized on stage as they receive their diploma. The ceremony will be approximately one and a half hours long, and a reception with refreshments will follow. Tickets are not required for the department ceremony. Graduates may bring as many guests as they wish.
DEPARTMENT COMMENCEMENT SIGN UP REQUIRED
We encourage everyone to participate. If you plan to do so, please register to walk in the department ceremony by May 10, 2019 by filling out this online form (or paper forms are available in Friendly Hall 202). This is in addition to applying for your degree on DuckWeb. German and Scandinavian Department registration is necessary to help us introduce you when you walk across the stage during the Department Commencement Ceremony. It also includes information required by GradImages, the commencement photographer, in order for you to receive your proofs after the ceremony. The proofs are free, and there is no obligation to purchase photos. On the day of the ceremony, graduates should arrive at 3:15pm for check-in, group photographs, and lining up. If you need additional information or have questions, contact the Undergraduate Coordinator, Karen Neal at email@example.com.
REGALIA AND GRADUATION PHOTOS
Graduates are requested to wear the traditional regalia (cap, gown, and tassel). Regalia and other items related to commencement may be purchased from the University of Oregon Duck Store. Grad Fair will be held at the Duck Store (13th and Kincaid Street), April 8-11, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Information on diploma frames, class rings, regalia, announcements, and more will be available and representatives will be present from many companies to answer your questions and take care of all your graduation needs in one place. GradImages will be providing university commencement photography and will photograph our graduates at the department ceremony.
PARKING AND SHUTTLES
Graduates and their guests are strongly encouraged to take advantage of free parking at Autzen Stadium and the free shuttle to campus. Shuttles will run constantly between Autzen and campus throughout the day. Guests should plan to arrive at the parking lot at least an hour before the start of any ceremony they wish to attend to ensure enough time to reach their ceremony site. ADA parking is provided for the day in the Columbia Garage under the Ford Alumni Center. An ADA shuttle will be available for pick up and drop off at this location throughout the day. More information can be found on the University’s Commencement website. If mobility accommodations are needed for you or your guests at the Department Ceremony, please notify the German and Scandinavian Department at 541-346-4051.
